13/10/07 - League game v Wendron Utd
St Austell 1 Wendron Utd 1
In a much improved performance St Austell despite having a number of players missing through injuries and absentee's, earned their 1st home point at Poltair Park this season after a 1-1 draw against Wendron Utd, who's equaliser didn't come until the 88th minute.
Dominating the 1st half it was the Lillywhites who opened the scoring on 12 minutes when after good build-up play, Daniel Ball slid the ball through for Glen Patterson who, despite being fouled, held off his defender to slot the ball home.
Town continued to battle away and play some neat football but both Patterson and Harry Pope failed to increase the lead.
After the interval, the Lillywhites continued to dominate the midfield battle but were equaly thankfull to Steve Raven who made 4 top class saves to deny Wendron a equaliser.
The away side continued to battle away and resorted to a more direct game towards the end of the game and managed to scramble home a late equaliser when Greg Hobbs tapped the ball home from a yard out to take a share of ther spoils.
Both teams nearly snatched a late winner in injury time but in the end had to settle for a point each.

06/10/07 - League game v Wendron Utd
Wendron Utd 4 St Austell 0
In contrast to the week before, St Austell lacked belief, passion and quality in a 4-0 away defeat to Wendron Utd.
Wendron took the lead on 15 minutes when Steve Hodges' deep cross found Greg Hobbs umarked, who volleyed home from close range.
After there best spell in the game St Austell should have equalised just before half-time, when Glen Patterson put debutant Richie Ward 1 on 1 with the goalkeeper, put pulled his shot fractionally wide.
The home side then extended their lead 5 inutes after the break with Matt McIlroy crossing for Hobbs to score at the 2nd attempt after his initial shot was excellently saved by Steve Raven.
The game was all over mid-way through the 2nd half half when Hobbs who could have scored himself, un-selfishly squared the ball for Mike O'Neill to side foot home from 4 yards.
5 minutes later Wendron completed the scoring when McIlroy robbed the ball and curled home a long range effort after Raven was out of position.

29/09/07 - Throgmorton Cup 1st Round v Camelford
St Austell 2 Camelford 1
St Austell picked up their 1st win of the season and earnt a tough tie against Saltash Utd with a 2-1 well earned victory over Camelford in the 1st round of the Throgmorton Cup.
St Austell started bright and could have took the lead when Harry Pope failed to play a simple pass which would have left Tomo Ball clean through, but after 16 minutes Glen Patterson finished well with a accurate shot into the bottom corner to give the Lillywhites a half time lead.
The second started much like the first with St Austell well on top. Even the introduction of former St Austell player Neil Slateford (who left during the week) did little to change things and must be wondering if he made the right decision to move clubs.
On 69 minutes the game was all but over when Glen Patterson, scored his and St Austell's 2nd of the game sliding the ball past Camelford goalkeeper Jimmy Vernon after Harry Pope's initial shot was only parried.
The away side then started to push forward but St Austell, unlike in recent weeks, stayed resolute at the back and gave Camelford very little.
But St Austell were unfortunate to conceded a late consolation when the ball re-bounded of the back of Camelford's Neil Young and flew into the bottom corner of the net.
The one negative from the game for St Austell was that striker, Tomo Ball was carried off the pitch after a nasty collision with the Camelford goalkeeper Vernon, with damaged ankle ligaments and looks likely to miss the weekend's game away at Wendron Utd. He was replaced by his 16 year old nephew, Stephen Martin who impressed greatly after coming on.
Line up - Steve Raven, Sam Waters, Dave Hooper (c), Chris Lock, Daniel Ball, Karl Cocks, Harry Pope, Jay Hill, Kyle Friendship, Tomo Ball (Stephen Martin 30 mins), Glen Patterson.
Sub - Stephen Martin.

22/09/07 - League game v Mousehole
St Austell 1 Mousehole 3
It was another case of St Austell v Steve Annis, who appears to have a personal vendetta with St Austell football club after numerous times of refeering St Austell he is yet to have what you would call a 'fair or decent' performance and seems to write his own rules to suit St Austell's opposition and when it is like that there is only ever going to be 1 winner. Throughout the whole 90 minutes the Lillywhites were only awarded 3 fouls in there favour, the 3rd being greated with loud applause and cheers by both fans and players alike (which says it all).
The writing was on the wall when after only 30 seconds, when Mousehole were awarded a penalty after goalkeeper Steve Raven appeared to bring down the Mousehole forward (when in reality he did not touch the player). Bulgarian striker Emil Ivanov stepped up to take the penalty, which was superbly saved by Raven diving to his left hand side.
10 minutes later though Ivanov made up for his penalty miss when he vollyed home from 10 yards, to give the west country boys the lead.
St Austell continued to battle gamely but had little to show for theie efforts until Harry Pope levelled on 15 minutes after a thoughball by Tomo Ball.
But compounding the home teams misfortunes it was a bitter sweet afternoon for the unlucky Pope when he put the ball into his own net to restore the visitors lead.
Coming out after the interval St Austell continued to play with conviction and battled well.
They were desperately unlucky on the 60th minute when a clumsy tackle by captain Dave Hooper on Moushole's John Tonkin resulted in the 2nd penalty of the game, which Tonkin took himself and sent Raven the wrong way to send his side to the top of the league.
Tomo Ball almost got the saints back into the game late on but his shot was well saved by the Mousehole goalkeeper.
Line up - Steve Raven, Simon Lambert (Glen Patterson 25 mins), Chris Lock, Dave Hooper (c), Mark Claridge, Karl Cocks, Daniel Ball, Harry Pope, Kyle Friendship (Jay Hill 80 mins), Tomo Ball, Sam Waters.

15/09/07 - League game v Foxhole Stars
St Austell 2 Foxhole Stars 3
St Austell will be left disappointed after being on the end of a 3-2 defeat to local rivals Foxhole Stars, in a game of 3 bizarre goals and again some poor refereeing at a sun-drenched Poltair Park.
St Austell who were the better side in the first half started brightly and could have taken the lead after just 4 minutes when Tomo Ball's attempted lob went just wide of the post.
Phil Hutchings, promoted from the 2nd team, should have put Lillywhites ahead, when he shot wide from close range after a superb Kyle Friendhip cross, who himself later had shot just wide on 15 minutes.
In the soaring heat the game fired into life on 33 minutes with 3 goals coming in 5 minutes.
The visitors were first to strike when Liam Ames laid the ball off to Jason Warne, who slotted his left footed effort across goalkeeper Steve Raven into the corner of the net.
But lead did'nt last long however, as the home team went straight up the other end to level the scores.
After hard work from the hard-working Friendship, the youngster laid thr ball back to Mark Claridge, who sent his left-footed cross into the to the top corner of the net decieving goalkeeper Ryan Holland.
On 38 minutes the Foxes re-established their when Scott Hill shot into the un-guarded net after goalkeeper Steve Raven could only punch the cross straight into Hill's path.
Where the 1st half belonged to St Austell the 2nd was probably shaded by Foxhole, but their marine Richard Griffin missed several chances to seal the 3 points.
His first came on 47 minutes when he shot just wide from the angle, before Neil Slateford drove into Hollands hands at the other end.
With St Austell trying to find their way back into thr game they were indepted to Raven who twice denied Griffin.
The Saints hard work was rewarded after 78 minutes when again Claridge's attempted cross went into the corner of the net, much like his 1st effort.
Foxhole, then went back on the offensive and again continued to see the Griffin's dual with Raven but saw his effort from 8 yards saved again by the goalkeeper, sporting a blue hair style.
7 minutes from time Foxhole, were given a huge slice of luck when Hill, sent his cross into the far corner of the net, much like Claridge's earlier efforts.

08/09/07 - League game v Hayle
Hayle 2 St Austell 2
St Austell's young makeshift side, looked on course for their first win of the season when they raced into a 2-0 lead at Trevassack Park on Saturday. But were unable to hang to the early advantage and instead had to settle for a point.
The Lillywhites began in style with Kyle Friendship finding Harry Pope who squared the ball for Tomo Ball to score for the third succesive game.
It got even better for St Austell when Kyle Friendship's cross was turned into the back of the net by Ball again, although the final touch did seem to come off a Hayle defender.
Trailing 2-0 with 20 minutes gone Hayle responded well and 5 minutes later Alan Roberts pulled a goal back for Hayle after St Austell failed to clear the ball in the goal scramble.
Hayle soon level with Shaun Quinn getting on the end of a Matty Thomas cross to head home from 8 yards.
In the second half St Austell defended manfully after being put under pressure and could have won it when Craig Barclay could only head into the arms of the keeper after being found unmarked in the area.

01/09/07 - League Game v Vospers Oak Villa
St Austell 1 Vospers Oak Villa 3
St Austell remain bottom of the South West Peninsula division 1 west after their 3-1 defeat in their first home game of the season, agaisnt Vospers Oak Villa. But can count themselves unlucky after conceding to two 20 yard 'wonder' strikes and a unfortunate deflected goal.
The lilywhites did have their chances to break the deadlock before half-time, and were unfortunate not to open the scoring when Tomo Ball rattled the post from a tight angle after his intial shot was saved, after vospers had initially hit the cross-bar with a 25 yard strike.
It was the away side however who opened the scoring in first half injury time when Jason King shot into the roof of the St Austell net from 20 yards.
2 minutes into the second half the lead was doubled when Gareth Jones drove his left-footed shot into the top corner of the net.
Villa then made it 3 and essentially wrapped up the game in fortunate circumstances when Kevin Smale's effort took a wicked deflection of Karl Cocks and flew into the top left hand corner of the net.
From then on it was constant pressure from the home side and 10 minutes from time managed to pull a goal back when Tomo Ball converted a penalty after a foul on Harry Pope. The goal seemed to raise the Saints and were unlucky not to pull another goal or 2 back.
Line Up - Martin Quantick, Sam Waters, Dave Hooper (c), Mark Claridge, Daniel Ball, Karl Cocks, Harry Pope, Neil Slateford, Kyle Friendship, Glen Patterson (Craig Barclay 55mins), Tomo Ball.

25/08/07 - League Game v Penzance
Penzance 6 St Austell 1
St Austell suffered defeat for the second week running after a hat-trick from Steve Hancock helped them to a home victory against a young St Austell side at a sun-drenched Penlee Park.
The Magpies fresh from their opening day win win at Newquay, were in front after less than 4 minutes, when a rash challenge from Mark Claridge on Hancock, resulted in a Penzance free-kick 25 yards from goal and Wayne Quinn curled a superb effort into the top right hand corner.
St Austell's young side kept battling away and it took a good save from home keeper Criag Nicholls to protect his sides lead, saving well at full-stretch to push Harry Pope's low effort wide of the post.
Hancock headed against the bar from a Reynolds' cross on the half hour, but seconds later later made it 2-0 after pouncing on a loose ball in the six yard box.
St Austell finished the strongly and reduced the score 10 minutes before the break when Tomo Ball burst through to beat Nicholls sliding the ball past the keeper before Glen Patterson came close to equalising on the stroke of half time when he headed just wide after some superb wing play from Kyle Friendship on the left.
The second half didn't go St Austell's way. Within a matter of seconds Reynolds put his side 3-1 up after drilling the ball from an acute angle past Martin Quantick on his near post.
St Austell were unfortunate not to make it 3-2 as Nicholls made another great save to preserve Penzance's 2 goal advantage, clawing a close range effort from Harry Pope back off the line, before the Magpies lost defender Dean Mooney, who briefly lost consciousness after being accidently kicked in the head by Glen Patterson.
Mooney's replacement, Darren Ball, wasted little time getting into the thick of things after his header rattled against the bar with his first touch from Quinn's corner.
Penzance started to stretch the tiring visitors whose own cause wasn't helped by the loss of defenders Dave Hooper and Sam Waters through injury and illness.
The Magpies extended their lead on 75 minutes when Nick Pugliese and substitute Sean McMahon combined to set up Hancock for his second and Penzance's fourth of the game.
St Austell's torrid afternoon went from bad to worse when they had Mark Claridge sent-off for after he recieved his second booking of the game after a challenge on Penzance's Dan Magee. Meaning St Austell lost their entire back 3 within a matter of minutes.
The Magpies sent on Jowan May in place of Reynolds and May took just 8 minutes to open his account, beating Quantick after some good work by Darren Ball.
Diminutive young midfielder Neil Slateford - son of former Cornish goalscoring supremo Chris, showed up well for the visitors after coming on as a second half substitute.
The 17 year old was unfortunate not to pull another goal back 4 minutes from time when his excellent long range strike re-bounded off the cross-bar.
But it was Penzance's day and they were gifted a sixth goal 2 minutes from time when goalkeeper Quantick spilled a Magee cross straight into Hancock's path to gift him his hat-trick.
Line up - Martin Quantick, Sam Waters (Neil Slateford ,50 mins), Dave Hooper (c) (Phil Hutchings, 80 mins), Mark Claridge, Daniel Ball, Karl Cocks, Harry Pope, Craig Barclay, Kyle Friendship, Glen Patterson, Tomo Ball.

18/08/07 - League Game v Camelford
Camelford 4 St Austell 0
It was a "bad day at the office" for St Austell who suffered defeat in their opening league game of the new South West Peninsula League, losing 4-0 away at newly promoted Camelford.
The 4-0 score line does not tell the whole story as St Austell was well in the for 80 minutes, despite not showing anywhere near the form or quality of earlier in pre-season.
The home side opened the scoring after 20 minutes when Cameron Palin found the back of the net after a cross from Paul Menhennick.
The lilywhites should have equalised soon before half time, when Andy Butler shot wide after drifting in unmarked at the back post.
After the break St Austell were again unlucky not to equalise when Harry Pope went close twice in a matter of minutes, after first hitting the cross bar with a good effort from 20 yards out and coming close again from close range just flicking the over the bar.
With the game in the balance the hosts sealed the win with Menhennick bagging a late hat-trick.
The first saw the front man scoring after some in-decision from Saints goalkeeper Martin Quantick and some good work by Mark Gusteron.
Menhennick went on to add a further 2 goals netting a Palin cross and then closing the scoring with an opportunist goal.
Line up - Martin Quantick, Phil Hobbs, Dave Hooper (c), Mark Claridge, Daniel Ball, Karl Cocks, Neil Slateford (Steve Raven, 83 mins), Andy Butler (Tomo Ball, 80 mins), Kyle Friendship, Glen Patterson (Martin Jones, 75 mins), Harry Pope.

08/08/07 - Friendly v Roche
Roche 1 St.Austell 3
St Austell continued pre-season with a 3-1 victory against a determined Roche who battled hard throughout the game.
The lillywhites took the lead after just 3 minutes when a excellent cross from the left by Kyle Friendship was met by the head of the impressive Harry Pope after out-jumping the Roche defender.
The home side levelled soon after, with a soft goal when Andy Geach's effort decieved goalkeeper Martin Quantick from 20 yards out.
The Saints did'nt have to wait to long to regain the lead when Mark Claridge placed his free-kick into the bottom left hand corner. Giving St Austell a 2-1 advantage going into the break.
After the interval St Austell sealed the win when Harry Pope scored his 2nd of the game after a neat interchange with strike partner Glen Patterson to then superbly fire the ball into the top corner.
The game was marred by some poor refereeing, in particular when lively young 16 year old substitute Stephen Martin was carried of the pitch after being victim of a horror challenge from the Roche goalkeeper, after he had initally beaten the goalkeeper to the ball.
Line up - Martin Quantick, Dave Grose, Dave Hooper, Mark Claridge, Daniel Ball, Karl Cocks, Sam Waters, Craig Barclay, Kyle Friendship, Harry Pope, Glen Patterson.

04/08/07 - Friendly v Saltash Utd
St.Austell 4 Saltash Utd 1
St Austell continued there 100% pre-season campaign after an emphatic victory over a mixed Saltash Utd side that included several first team members.
Daniel Ball opened the scoring for St Austell with a left footed strike which was fumbled over the line by the Saltash goalkeeper. Before Saltash equalised just before half time with a looped header over goalkeeper Martin Quantick after the initial cross was not closed down.
The second produced 3 goals for the lillywhites. With 17 year old debutant Harry Pope adding the second goal. The third goal came from fellow youngster Neil Slateford and a very good run and finish from midfield.
The final goal came soon after from Glen Patterson with a easy finish from close range.

St.Stephen 1 St.Austell 3
St Austell came from behind to beat East cornwall division one side St Stephens.
The home side, led at the break with a close range header from midfielder Andy Willis on 20 minutes.
But after the half time break the lillywhites fought back with 3 second half goals. The first coming from striker Glen Patterson who followed up his own penalty after it was intially saved to bundle the ball over the line. Patterson was later forced off after a late 2 footed lunge on him from a St Stephen player.
The second came from the versatile Sam Waters, after his strong run was finished in superb style smashing the ball into the roof of the net to put St Austell in the lead.
The win was then sealed in spectacular style when Daniel Ball picked up the ball 30 yards from goal before striking the ball into the top corner of the net.

St.Austell made it 2 wins from their opening 2 games of their pre season, as they defeated Nanpean Rovers, 3-1 at Poltair Park.
The home side started brightly, but were forced into an early substitution when Dan Nancarrow was forced off with a head injury after an aerial challenge with Andy Avery.
Nancarrow, was taken to hospital with 6 stitches required and suffered a small fracture to the cheek-bone. While it was his replacement who opened the scoring after 18 minutes.
Second team rookie Phil Hutchins, got on the end of a cross from the fleet-footed Neil Slateford, and his header looped over Nanpean goalkeeper Jason Walters and into the back of the net.
Early in the second half, Nanpean levelled the score when Rory Barnicle tapped home, after joint player-manager Martin Quantick, spilled the ball, which fell to the feet of the young front man.
The Lillywhites regained the lead on 69 minutes when young midfield maestro Karl Cocks drilled home, from the edge of the area, after Hutchings pulled the ball back.
Just 4 minutes later, it was 3 when Glen Patterson tapped home after Walters spilled the initial shot.
5 minutes from time Nanpean missed the chance to reduce the deficit, when Ben Douglas blazed well over from the spot, after substitute Martin Giles was harshly adjudged to have handled in the area by referee Malcolm West.
